The number of families in which second, third and subsequent children are born is growing in Kazan. These figures were achieved due to the supporting measures to large families. The extension of the program and its prolongation until at least 2026, announced in the President's Address to the Federal Assembly, will significantly improve the demographic situation in the country, mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin said today at a Business Monday.
“By the scope of tasks and opportunities that we have received, the President's Address is an unprecedented event – the mayor said. The citizens are actively discussing maternity capital, which has been prolonged until at least 2026”.
For information, in his Address, the President proposed to extend the maternity capital program for the birth of the first child. At the same time, the maternity capital at the birth of the second child will be increased by 150 thousand rubles – up to 616 thousand 617 rubles.
Maternity capital plays an important role in improving the demographic situation. Thus, in Kazan, out of the total number of registered birth certificates, the birth of second and subsequent children was 56%. 280 families had twins, and 5 families had triplet babies.
In total, 19 thousand 684 children were born in Kazan in 2019. Of these, 10 thousand 194 are girls (52%), and 9 thousand 490 boys (48%), R.Minnullina said. “Now there are fewer reproductive age people - both men and women. In Kazan, the falling of birth rates has been observed since 2017 – she said. – At the same time, among the cities with million plus population in the Volga Federal district, our city remains a high birth rate”.
“It is good that the number of families with second and subsequent children is growing in Kazan. If 10 years ago families basically had one child, now the number of families in which second, third, and fourth children are born is constantly growing – commented the mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin. – This is a very positive demographic indicator for us. And the decline in the number of children born is an objective consequence of the fact that parents are representatives of the generation of the 90s. We have this figure in the whole country. But the decline is not crucial”.
